2 Awesome Gluten Free sample companies!

I was at the Gluten and Allergy Free Expo this Sunday working a booth for HMN. We just found out our son probably has a Gluten issue so I was excited to go and try some samples. I tried tons of yummy foods! I wanted to let all of you know about 2 great companies that I found.

GoPicnic. www.gopicnic.com They are individually boxed lunches/meals. They have no HFCS, MSGs, artificial colors or trans fats. They have several Gluten Free options. The don't require refrigeration. They are perfect for lunches, traveling, picnicking etc. They had a SUPER good deal on them so I bought a bunch. It is a good way to try new foods too! :) I am going to take a few on our plane trip to Boston in a few weeks. I just went to their website and they are having a sale on several of the gluten free ones. Also there is a contest (and coupon code) if you like them on Facebook.

GFree Connect. http://www.gfreeconnect.com/ This company sends you a care package every 3 months with GF samples and coupons. It was a more than half full paper shopping bag of samples plus a stack of coupons!! It is $30 plus shipping each quarter. (He said shipping is like $12)

"Each package will include approximately 25 gluten free items to sample, plus valuable coupons - some for free or heavily discounted items, professional/ organization information like celiac centers, health care professionals, support groups, and more. Each quarterly care package will contain different items, so you will enjoy tasting different foods sent directly to your home every three months."

It is a great way to try GF foods and not have to waste your money if you don't like something. The founder helped carry my stuff to my car. He told me how his daughter has Celiac and it sucked spending 5,6,7 dollars on a new GF food only to have his daughter take one bite and hate it. This company just launched 5 weeks ago. They sold out of all the packs they brought to the Expo.

I was so excited to get soooo many samples of new healthy foods to try. I can't wait to eat them all...oh yeah they are for my son! :)

Whole Foods Film Festival this whole month of April

Whole Foods Market presents the Do Something Reel™ Film Festival, a collection of six provocative, character-driven films focused on passionate people making a world of difference.

From the Coal River Valley of West Virginia to the inner city of Detroit, from vanishing bee populations to the evolution of the National School Lunch Program, from farmers and active everyday citizens to doctors and scientists, the Do Something Reel line-up provides a moving, eye-opening look at how the choices we make can have a huge impact on our bodies, our economy, and our environment. We hope these films will inspire you to reflect on what you're passionate about, and how you can make a difference!

This nationwide traveling festival will be presented in 70+ cities throughout April, in celebration of Earth Month.

Children's Resale shops in and around Milwaukee

Someone asked me about my knowledge of the Milwaukee children's resale shops. I thought I would post it on here and share it with you. This is just my opinion from my experiences at the stores mentioned.

Children’s Orchard (Hwy 100 & National) 11110 W. National Ave West Allis (414) 321-1146 All items are in excellent condition. Great clothing selection. Very friendly staff. Not a lot of big stuff. Sign up for MOMS Club (e-mail) to get $5 coupon. They have a punch card.

Playroom Closet (93rd and Greenfield) 9306 W Greenfield Ave (414) 727-9065 Tons of stuff. Lots of big items. Clothing selection is small.

For Mom and Me (70th and Greenfield) 7046 W. Greenfield ave 414 443-0339 Lots and lots and lots of stuffed crammed into a small space. Prices are a bit high and quality is sometimes skechy. Not everyone likes the man that runs it. If you are nice and friendly to him he will be nice to you. They carry maternity clothes.
New to You Kids (North of Southridge Mall) 5020 S. 74th St 414-325-7512 and 3835 N. 124th St Brookfield (Capitol and 124th) 262-783-4778 Ok selection, quality is sometimes sketchy. Employees are not nice or helpful in my opinion and experience at either location. Coupon on website. They have a punch card.

Once Upon A Child (124th and North) 2405 N 124th St, Brookfield (262) 782-5437 Lots of clothes but too many on the racks, makes it really hard to look at them. I find lots of good shoes here for some reason. They have a punch card.

Tuesday's Child (Wauwautosa) 7471 Harwood Ave, Wauwatosa (414) 226-5250 Very small selection. Nice expensive boutique brands but high prices

Heavenly Kidzz (Bay View) 2675 S. Kinnickinnic Ave 414-294-4040 This is under new ownership so I don't really know how it is going so far. They do carry maternity clothes and cloth diapers.

Cutest Kids Consignment (Oak Creek) 8509A South Howell Avenue, Oak Creek 414-459-3328  I have never been there. They are only open Wed-Sat

Did I miss any? What are your thoughts about these stores?

Introduction to Homeopathy on-line class Starting March 4th

I've taking Sharri's Intro to Homeopathy Part 1 of 2. It was really great! It is a lot of reading so if you don't have that much time I suggest her new shorter class. She gives you great information - not just on Homeopathy.

I've had a HUGE interest in my homeopathy online/email class that I have been teaching for nearly 9 years now (starting the 64th class on March 4).

I have created 2 introductory classes
- one that is 4 months (and then has an optional Part 2) and one that is 6 weeks (and has optional Part 2 & Part 3 for those who want to go further)

A.
Introduction to Homeopathy, Part 1 of 2 - 4 month course - next class starts Friday, March 4, 2011 - for those that have the time and dedication (or a background in use of homeopathy) to really get into the laws and principles and how to take a case, repertorize and find & give a remedy. http://www.wellwithin1.com/homeo2AA.htm

B. Introduction to Homeopathy, Part 1 of 3 - 6 week course - next class starts Friday, March 4, 2011 - for those that don't have much time to devote to learning homeopathy in detail as in above 4 month course - this is a shorter, easier, quick introduction so you can get started using homeopathy right away (then there are further classes if you want to go into it more deeply after this shorter Part 1) http://www.wellwithin1.com/homeo2A.htm

Sheri Nakken, former R.N., MA, Hahnemannian Homeopathhttp://homeopathycures.wordpress.com/ & http://vaccinationdangers.wordpress.com/ONLINE/Email classes in Homeopathy; Vaccine Dangers; Childhood Diseases
Next classes start Friday February 11 & March 4

A short histoy of diapering in America

This is from TheGreenBabyGuide.com. I found it interesting....

Obviously, Native Americans were the first to deal with diapering on the continent and their solutions were environmentally ideal.  In warmer climates, babies went without pants and potty trained early while in colder climates Indigenous people used a disposable diaper that was fully biodegradable—and completely free.  They packed milkweed with peat moss or grasses, or sometimes filled animal skins with similar contents.  The result? A diaper that could be easily left behind to break down into the soil in just a few weeks.
In pioneer days, wet diapers weren’t washed. They were simply hung to dry in front of the fire.  Imagine cooking your family’s meal over the campfire and the mixed odors of stew, wood smoke and dried urine!
Cloth diapering continued for decades without many innovations until mothers started entering the work force in World War II.  Diaper services sprang up around the country to meet their needs. The invention of the washing machine in the early fifties also made cloth diapering far more convenient.
In 1950, Mrs. Hellerman, the owner of a diaper service, invented a pre-folded diaper with extra layers in the center.  The fold was sewn into the diaper and now we have our beloved  prefold diapers that are still popular today.
Marion Donovan, a housewife who was desperate for an easier diapering solution, invented the first disposable diaper in the late 1940’s.  She cut her shower curtain into envelopes into which she stuffed conventional cloth diapers and called them “Boaters.”  The cover closed with plastic snaps, eliminating the need for diaper pins.  No manufacturer would support her, so she sold her product directly to department stores.  Eventually she converted the design to thick absorbent paper and the disposable diaper was born. She later sold her company for one million dollars.
The sixties took disposable diapers into the mainstream, a movement which continued into the seventies as women continued to move into careers outside the home.
Just two decades ago, cloth started making a comeback as parents started to question the environmental impact of disposable diapers.  Plus, with innovative new features like Velcro and snap closures, pocket inserts, and various liners, cloth diapering became more convenient and appealing than ever before.  Other greener options such as hybrid diapers with disposable inserts and compostable disposables also hit the market.
Although disposables have only really been around for fifty years, many scientists believe that they’ll take up to 500 years to decompose.  That means that those first diapers invented by Marion Donovan won’t have broken down by the end of your great, great granchildren’s lives.  On a happier note, who knows what kind of crazy innovations we’ll have made in natural diapering by then.  Perhaps we’ll be using a newfangled product made of milkweed and stuffed with peat moss—and finding the best combination of convenience and conservation.
