Pay It Forward Day - Dec 1st

This was sent to me by my friend on Facebook. This is such a fantastic idea. I have always wanted to do something like this after seeing the movie Pay It Forward. My Pay it forward idea it to pay for the persons food behind you in line at the drive thru. This really should be an everyday occurrence....

David's 2nd Annual (David Del Mundo is the creator of this event)
Pay It Forward Day
December 1st, 2010

‘Tis the Season! A random act of kindness goes a long way so…

PAY IT FORWARD!!!

What can you do?
ON DEC. 1st...
• Pay for someone’s cup of coffee…
• Buy someone some groceries…
• Get the next person’s gas…
• Help someone out…
• Donate something…
• Be creative!!!

When you do something for someone there’s a good chance they’ll do something for someone else. If not, at least you’ve done a good deed for someone.

So on December 1st share some kindness and spread some joy! It can be as little as a few dollars or as much as you want. No one needs to know!

Join me, won’t you?

(I'm trying to make this a national event so spread the word. Maybe one day it'll be a nationally recognized day!)

I won't be offended if you don't decide to participate, but please... spread the word!

Daily Deals e-mailed to you

Do you know about these daily deal e-mails? I have got so much good stuff from receiving these e-mails.

Groupon.com Each day in every major city there is a deal (and a side deal) for the day. I have got a $40 gift cert for only $20 to a super yummy local pizza place that serves mainly all organic food. Just today I got a half off family membership to the Urban Ecology Center ($17 instead of $35). Groupon is awesome. There has to be enough people to buy the deal to make it happen...hence 'group'on. If the deal does not get enough people then you get your money back. Sign up to get the daily e-mail so you don't miss any deals. Please use my link http://www.groupon.com/r/uu5179141 if it is your first time ordering a Groupon. Thanks!

EcoMom.com 'EcoMom Daily Deal. One Day, One Deal, One Irresistible Price' Sign up to receive the daily e-mail. They have great natural and organic products on EcoMom. The Daily Deal is always really good!

TheThriftyMama.com I'm sure you know I LOVE The Thrifty Mama. She finds such amazing deals on so much stuff. I don't know how she does it. :) She finds great deals on natural and organic products (and regular stuff too). Sign up to receive her e-mails which come almost every day. You have to click onto another page for the Search bar to show up on the top right. Under it is the facebook and twitter icons. There is a little pink and white envelope icon. Click that to sign up for the daily e-mails.

Anyone know of any other daily deals you get e-mailed to you? Please let me know!
Happy shopping.

...I just found another one like Groupon. It's called LivingSocial.com. Sign up to get daily e-mailed deals!

Gardasil is KILLING our young girls

I am a non-vaccing parent. I have done my research and have read many studies. This decision is what I have made for my child. That said, I know each person needs to make their own decision about vaccinating their children. I will not get into all the 'common' vaccines giving to children, but I fell I must warn you about this Gardasil vaccine. In the 4 years it has been around there have been 65 DEATHS reported. That is over 1 death per MONTH. And that is just what was reported. I'm sure many more have occurred due to this vaccine.
Click here on Mercola.com to read all the nasty details of this vaccine that is supposed to prevent cervical cancer by preventing you from getting HPV(a sexually transmitted disease).

Some of the highlights include:
  • As of September 28, 2010, the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) has more than 18,000 Gardasil-related adverse events listed in it, including at least 65 deaths.
  • Only 27 percent of girls who have received the Gardasil vaccine have gotten all three shots in the vaccine's series. Merck blames it on forgetfulness, and has launched a "reminder" program that contacts vaccinees, and urges them to complete the series. CNN Money suggests that it has to do with the vaccine's high cost – just under $400 for a three-shot series, although some private doctors charge up to $875 for a three-shot series. But neither has considered the third possibility – that the reported reactions  girls are suffering after getting one or two shots of Gardasil are so severe that they decide not to go back for more.
  • The unfortunate fact is Merck only studied the vaccine in fewer than 1200 girls under age 16, and most of the serious health problems and deaths in the pre-licensure clinical trials were written off as a "coincidence." And now, since those adverse reactions aren't listed as possible warning signs that the vaccine can cause harm, health officials are still ignoring them, even while girls die and others suffer ongoing, and often permanent, injuries and disabilities from it.
  • The important thing to know about HPV is that in almost all cases, it clears up on its own without any adverse health effects within two years in most healthy people.
  • According to the CDC's report on HPV to Congress in 2004:
"Cervical cancer is an uncommon consequence of HPV infection in women, especially if they are screened for cancer regularly with pap tests and have appropriate follow-up of abnormalities.
This vaccine is just about MONEY. It is KILLING young girls and now it is being marketing to BOYS too. UGH I just want to cry.

Here are more websites with info about Gardasil.

http://truthaboutgardasil.org/
http://womenhurtbymedicine.wordpress.com/background-info/
http://www.nvic.org/NVIC-Vaccine-News/July-2009/Preventing-Gardasil-Vaccine-Injuries-Deaths.aspx

Please don't give this vaccine to your child or yourself. It is not safe or effective.

Be a conscious parent - ask questions, read for yourself, trust your instincts. Your children NEED you to.

'Race To Nowhere' Screening Thurs Oct 7th 2010

Race to Nowhere - The Dark Side of America's Achievement Culture

About the Film

Director Vicki Abeles turns the personal political, igniting a national conversation in her new documentary about the pressures faced by American schoolchildren and their teachers in a system and culture obsessed with the illusion of achievement, competition and the pressure to perform. Featuring the heartbreaking stories of young people across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids, Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace, students have become disengaged, stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant, and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

Race to Nowhere is a call to mobilize families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.

Deals at Outpost

I love Outpost. :) I feel so calm and comfortable every time I go in there (I shop at the Bay View location). It is so relaxing to just walk around and show my son all the great healthy food there.

I went to the Truck Load sale a few weekends ago. I highly recommend if you want great deals on bulk items. I got a case of frozen  EVOL burritos, 3 lbs of raw almonds, 1 gallon of extra virgin olive oil, a case of Annie's Shells and Cheese, 3 whole chickens, 10 lbs of ground beef, 2 boxes of 7th gen dishwashing detergent and a case of Clif bars all for $120. My savings listed on the receipt was $100!!! It was worth standing in the rain (sprinkle) for 15mins. Next time I will get in line early. I got there at 8:15 and had to wait for people to leave. Then when I left it was pouring but an very nice employee offered to help me to my car. He helped put my groceries in the car and took the cart back for me. It was so nice. :) I didn't even have my son with me...it was just me.

Before they used to mail you the great coupon book (if you are an owner) but I hadn't got one in a long time so I asked. The clerk told me that you now have to ask them for one because they are not longer mailing them. Ahh...ok...will do. So she gives me one then the next day one comes in the mail. Weird.

They have lots of stuff on sale this week till the 28th that there are coupons for in the coupon book. Annie's fruit snacks, Cascadian Farm frozen veggies, Rice Dream, Back to Nature crackers. This is the way I shop...buy things when they are on sale when you have a coupon!! I even used coupons at the Truckload sale!

In the Clipper Coupon free magazine that is mailed to my house, there is a coupon for Outpost. Get $5 off when you spend $50!

Happy shopping!

'A Chemical Reaction' screening in Shorewood Tues Sept 28th

This is a fantastic documentary on the lawn care pesticides that are killing our planet, pets and people. This DVD is not available on Netflix yet so the only way you can see it is at a screening such as this one. Don't miss it!

2010-2011 SHOREWOOD CINEMATIC SERIES PRESENTS:
A CHEMICAL REACTION
an  AWARD WINNING ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTARY
THAT QUESTIONS USE OF LANDSCAPE PESTICIDES

A Chemical Reaction explores how the elimination of lawn pesticides transformed one community in Canada, and how their actions impacted the chemical lawn care industry in North America.  Centered on the small town of Hudson, Quebec which was the first municipality in North America to ban common lawn and garden pesticides, the 75-minute film explores a landmark case decided in the Canadian Supreme Court in 2001. After the Court’s 9-0 verdict against the billion-dollar lawn care giant then known as ChemLawn, most Canadian provinces followed Hudson’s lead and enacted pesticide bans of their own.

SHOREWOOD, WI - September 28th, 2010, Shorewood High School Auditorium, on the corner of Oakland Avenue and Capitol Drive, Shorewood 53211.  The movie is free to the public, a $5.00 donation is suggested.  Screening begins at 7 p.m., seating opens at 6:30 p.m. This film is presented by the Healthy Communities Project  in partnership with the Shorewood Conservation Committee and the School District of Shorewood.

A Chemical Reaction is a great example of how motivated individuals can create change to improve public health,” said Melanie Ariens, of Healthy Communities Project.

Directed by Brett Plymale, A Chemical Reaction is described as “rousing” and was awarded four out of five stars by the film critics of the Montreal Gazette prior to its World Premiere in the fall of 2009. Since then the film has been earning awards and accolades at various film festivals, university screenings and other public venues. “Having visited Wisconsin several times in the past few years, I think the state is one of the few in the U.S. that could really be ready to embrace pesticide reform legislation,” said Paul Tukey, narrator of the film and founder of SafeLawns.org. - a non-profit organization dedicated to reduction in the use of lawn and garden pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilizers. It has produced a series of high-profile campaigns since its inception in 2006.

About The Film Series: The School District of Shorewood is pleased to announce the debut of a new cinematic series during the 2010-2011 school year. The district is partnering with several organizations throughout the year to present films and related presentations that relate to an organization’s focus.  A Chemical Reaction is the first film presented in this series, by the Healthy Communities Project of Milwaukee in partnership with the Shorewood Conservation Committee and the School District of Shorewood.

The series is scheduled for the following Tuesdays: November 2, February 1, March 8 and May 17.  More details will be posted on the district’s website at  http://www.shorewoodschools.org/

Halloween costumes at Value Village

I must tell you that I LOVE Halloween! I really love Halloween clothes for my son. So, I am always looking for good Halloween deals.

Have you been to Value Village? ValueVillageWI.com I go to the one on Layton (East of 794) in St. Francis. They have TONS of Halloween costumes. Today all the costumes were 50% off. My friend went the other day and they were 75% off. You do have to have some time to look because there are so many and they are not sorted at all. Kids and adults are all mixed together. There were 2 big racks in the front area, 1 side of an aisle and 4 racks in the back. There were lots of Halloween knick-knacks and stuff as well. I got a an awesome costume for my son and one for me for only $15.00 total! Darth Vader and Queen Ambidala from Star Wars. Now just need to find a matching one for the hubby....

Also, all of the tank tops and shorts are $1.00.

Everyday they have different departments (clothes, household goods, furniture, etc..) 50% off.

If you are a Packer fan, they have lots of Packer clothes out right now. I think there were 3 or 4 racks by the changing rooms.

“Suess” for Nursing Mothers

I did not write this wonderful piece. I got it somewhere on the Internet along time ago. Unfortunately, there was no author listed. I'm sure she knows how great of a piece this is and it rings true for so many of us. Thank you.

“Suess” for Nursing Mothers

Mother’s milk is just the thing!

Would you nurse her at the park?
Would you nurse him in the dark?
Would you nurse him with a Boppy?
And when your boobs are feeling floppy?

I would nurse him in the park,
I would nurse her in the dark.
I’d nurse with or without a Boppy.
Floppy boobs will never stop me.

Can you nurse with your seat belt on?
Can you nurse from dusk till dawn?
Though she may pinch me, bite me, pull,
I will nurse her ‘till she’s full!

Can you nurse and make some soup?
Can you nurse and feed the group?
It makes her healthy strong and smart,
Mommy’s milk is the best start!

Would you nurse him at the game?
Would you nurse her in the rain?
In front of those who dare to complain?
I would nurse him at the game.
I would nurse her in the rain.

As for those who protest lactation,
I have a perfect explanation.
Mommy milk is tailor made
It’s perfect food, you need no aid.

Some may scoff and some may wriggle,
Avert their eyes or even giggle.
To those who can be cruel and rude,
Remind them breast’s the perfect food!

I would never scoff or giggle,
Roll my eyes or even wiggle!
I would not be so crass or crude,
I KNOW that this milk’s the perfect food!

We make the right amount we need,
The perfect temp for every feed.
There’s no compare to milk from breast-
The perfect food, above the rest.

Those nursing smiles are oh so sweet,
Mommy milk is such a treat.
Human milk just can’t be beat.

I will nurse, in any case,
On the street or in your face.
I will not let my baby cry,
I’ll meet her needs, I’ll always try.

It’s not about what’s good for you,
It’s best for babies, through and through.

I will nurse her in my home,
I will nurse her when I roam.
Leave me be lads, leave me be ma’am.
I will nurse her, Mom I am.

'No Impact Man' movie at the Bay View EcoVillage

http://noimpactman.typepad.com

I went to a viewing of No Impact Man last night at the Bay View EcoVillage. What a great place and documentary! The movie is about Colin Beavan who decides to see what would happen if his family (wife and young daughter) lived for 1 year making no impact on the earth. It was interesting to see how things are so connected that we just take for granted. No electricity means no fridge, which means no milk (he comes up with a solution). No electricity also means no washing machine (they find out the tub and your feet works fine!) It was great to see how you can come up with eco friendly alternatives to our societal destructive ways. Not that 'Family Cloth' would work for all families (what you use instead of toilet paper. Fabric wipes you wash just like cloth diapers). Being No Impact would be very, very challenging for almost all of us but even if you do a few of the eco concious actions it will make a big impact.

A few simple easy eco actions you can do right now:
  • Marcal Small Steps  toilet paper. http://www.marcalsmallsteps.com It is 100% recycled ..I know you are thinking 'ouch, scratchy ol' recycled toilet paper' But is it not scratchy! It is not uber soft but it is much better then recycled toilet paper from back in the day. They have been around since 1950 and have saved million and million trees. Pick N Save carries it and they have it on sale usually every other month. In the Sunday paper coupons, you can find a $1.00 off coupon. And if you go to Pick N Save on Wednesday, it is double coupon day!
  • We love our To-Go Ware utensil sethttp://to-goware.com It is a bamboo set of a knife, spoon, fork and chopsticks in a pouch (We add a straw too). We keep it in the diaper bag so we always have it when we go out to eat. Then we don't need to use plastic ware!

Join thousands doing the Sierra Club No Impact Week--Starting TODAY 8/29

The No Impact Experiment is a one-week carbon cleanse that starts on Sunday, August 29th. It is a chance for you to see what a difference no-impact living can have on your quality of life. It's not about giving up creature comforts but an opportunity for you to test whether the modern "conveniences" you take for granted are actually making you happier or just eating away at your time and money.
http://action.sierraclub.org/site/PageNavigator/NAT_noimpact

We are going to try the No Impact Experiment for this week. I know it will be hard but everything we do will help the Earth.    ***We pledge and guarantee to not eat out for this No Impact week.***  This is a big thing for us. We eat out way more then we should.

Now, I must tell you about the Bay View EcoVillage. What a great set-up. Mark, who lives there and hosted the movie party, explained how the village works. There are 7 adults and 3 children that live in 2 side by side duplexes. They all share 1 car, they cook and eat meals together, have 1 TV in a room large enough to hold all of them and more and they have a massive vegetable garden. They have their own village. It was awesome to see. Thanks Mark and Lauren for hosting this event!!!

Eco-Friendly Baby Shower Invite

Here is the invite I sent out for my baby shower. Please feel free to use any or all of it that you would like. I was very happy that I didn't get any negative responds to this very different request. Actually, several guests told me that they had lots of fun finding cool gifts at the resale stores. I also included a list of the local children's resale stores.

Dear Friends and Family,

You have not met me yet but I am baby Boy D*** and I will be arriving very soon. I am so excited to join my mommy and daddy’s life and be the child they have always wanted.

You may know that my daddy is going to school for Environmental and Pollution Control Technologies. He and mommy are really trying to make a better and healthier world for me and everyone else too. I really want to start off my life with a minimal impact on the Earth and a healthy non-toxic environment for me. That is why I want to have an Eco-Friendly Baby Shower. I know that there are so many super cute baby items brand new in the store that you would love to buy for me but most of them are not healthy for me or the environment.

Ways to be Eco-Friendly could include:
Gently used items from resale and thrift stores. This saves you lots of money, keeps these items and all the new packaging out of the landfills, have less toxins and supports a local business owner! Mommy knows you can find great baby items and toys here because she works at one.
Wooden toys. Plastic toys and items have lots of yucky chemicals in them.
Natural and Organic toys, clothes and blankets and Cloth Diapers Not your grandma’s cloth diapers anymore – Check out our registry at JilliansDrawers.com. Use ******@yahoo.com to search for our registry.
Handmade gifts. Gifts made with love are always better than store bought.
Wrapping the gift in a recycled way – a blanket, a cloth diaper, the comics, reusable fabric bag, decorative box that can be reused as storage… be creative!
Homemade frozen meals for mommy and daddy to eat when they are too tired to cook.
Offering to babysit me. I would love to hang out with you!
Gift cards to Whole Foods- to buy organic foods for when mommy makes my baby food, The Outpost, any ‘Green’ store and resale stores.

In lieu of a baby shower card, please find a used children’s book and sign it. This will be a great way to start my own library. A wonderful place to find awesome children’s books (and books for you) is at Half-Price Books.

I know this is different than any baby shower you have been to but it is important to me, mommy and daddy. This will give me the best start at my life and also help the Earth! We are registered at Target on-line for a few new items. Thank you for being a part of my life (and mommy’s and daddy’s). I’ll see you soon! Love ya!

Coupon clipping at Bay View Community Center

For those of you that LOVE the coupon packs in the Sunday paper. You gotta check out the great 'class' at the Bay View Community Center (On Oklahoma just west of 794). It is not a class just a get together to clip coupons. People bring in their coupon packs all month to the community center. Then whoever shows up for this 'class' gets to clip what ever coupons they want! It is great! I have gone several times. I was the youngest by about 35 years (and I'm not young). The ladies were very nice and friendly. Check it out and/or drop off your coupon packs when you are done with them. :)

http://www.bayviewcenter.org/ They have tons of great classes!

Vaccine Dangers on-line class - Starts Sept 8th

This on-line class is offered by Sheri Nakken from WellWithin1.com. I have not taken this class yet but will do so in the near future. I have taken 2 other of Sheri's classes and they were great. I'm sure this one will be just as great!

Introduction to Vaccine Dangers Online Class - Class #44A

Next class starts online by email (go at your own pace) on September 8 and goes on for about 8 months (can read lessons as we go at your own pace, or read some and save some or all for later)

Information on ALL the dangers of Vaccines -

BENEFITS:
* Assist you in making decisions about vaccinations and giving you awareness of all aspects of the dangers
* Access to a huge file of tons of documentation which will be invaluable (if you print it all out)
* For self education & use
* For use with others
* Verification & vindication of your decision not to vaccinate
* Proof you have done your research in case questioned by officials in the future
* Ready access to all information in your email files

I started teaching an online class on the Dangers of Vaccinations in January, 2004 and have had a huge response & this is now the 44th class.

Many of you are new to this issue or have come to it because your child was harmed by vaccines or some of you know parts of the puzzle but don't know the whole picture of why vaccines are dangerous.

It is hard to get this from participating from an email list, although they are important to keep up to date, ask questions of other parents and professionals and to have the support the list offers.

Many of you have requested an organized class so that you can learn all the nuances and details about vaccines.

The class is divided into 2 parts (part 1 lasting about 8 months and then part 2 (separate fee) lasting over 1 year - Part 2 covers each specific vaccine and the side effects of each vaccine). Part 1 will NOT be a pre-requisite to taking part 2.

This is NOT a discussion list and you will only receive emails and lessons from me, limiting the number of emails

Objectives
By taking this online class, you will:
